Over time, the meaning of the tattoos we put on our bodies might change. Some of us might regret our tattoos, and celebs are no different. Many choose to get rid of the pictures and words they don’t like for good, but others use their creativity and imagination to change the tattoos to mean something good. Found photos of famous people with their old and new tattoos. Here are the stories behind the changes.
Heidi Klum removed a conceptual design from her arm after her divorce.
Heidi Klum got an abstract wave-shaped pattern tattooed on her arm in 2008 to mark the renewal of her wedding vows with Seal, her husband. She said, “It was our fourth wedding, and we wanted to get our names inked together.” Behind filing for divorce in 2012, the model took off the pattern for her husband, but she kept the four little stars for her children.
Kaley Cuoco flexed her marriage-inspired tattoo into a moth.
The actual tattoo below Kaley’s neck was the Roman numerals for the date of her wedding to Ryan Sweeting. After they broke up, the actress covered the wedding date with a moon picture. Because the new tattoo had to be big enough to cover the old one, Kaley chose a giant moth with enormous wings.
Malin Åkerman altered the meaning of her tattoo by adding just one letter.
Malin’s wrist tattoo was the letter “Z,” which stood for her ex-husband’s last name. After they divorced, the actress wanted to change the tattoo, so she put an “S” over it. The 1st letter of her son’s name, “Sebastian,” is an “S.”
Zoë Kravitz corrected a grammatical mistake.
There was a mistake in the original Arabic quote that Zo had on her back. It said “Let the love rule” instead of “Let love rule.” The actress chose to get rid of the tattoo and hide it with a beautiful dragonfly.
Angelina Jolie gave her tattoo a deeper meaning.
Angelina Jolie got her dragon tattoo from Billy Bob Thornton, her husband at the time. After the couple broke up, the actress covered this ink with the coordinates of where her children are from. Angelina likes tattoos a lot, and there are rumours that she has more than 15 of them.
Keith Urban devoted his wrist tattoo to Nicole Kidman.
The musician made an ink bracelet in a tribal style for his wife, Nicole Kidman, with her initials. This bracelet hides a tattoo of the Latin phrase “Omnia Vincit Amor,” which means “Love wins over everything.”
Marc Anthony wrapped his J.Lo-inspired wrist tattoo.
The singer used to have the comment “Jennifer” tattooed on his right wrist as a tribute to his then-wife Jennifer Lopez. After they broke up, he put a tribal design over J. Lo’s name.
Denise Richards is another celebrity who chose to cover her ex’s name tattoo.
In 2002, Denise Richards married Charlie Sheen, and she got his name tattooed on her ankle. After a few years, the couple broke up, and Denise changed the tattoo into a fairy.
Rihanna added to the “constellation” of stars around her neck.
She used to have a small group of stars on her neck. Rihanna and Chris Brown, her boyfriend at the time, both got star tattoos. After they broke up, Rihanna got a new tattoo. She added more stars to the tattoo and changed it, so it was more about her than her ex.
The singer also turned a shark on her ankle into a crown.
Rihanna got a camouflage shark tattoo on her left ankle to show her love for Drake, her boyfriend at the time. After they broke up, a crown took the place of the shark. Rihanna likes tattoos a lot. Elle magazine even made a guide to all of her tattoos and what the singer says they mean.
